Audi AG, part of the Volkswagen Group, makes Audi luxury cars. Whether you want an SUV, sedan, or sports car, Audi manufactures a variety of luxury vehicles.
The company dates back to 1899 when August Horch founded an automobile company bearing his name in Cologne, Germany. According to Audi, Horch left the company in 1909 due to differing opinions and founded Audi. Horch came up with the name by using the Latin translation of his last name, which means “hark,” or Audi, in German. After WWII and several mergers, Audi eventually became majority-owned by Volkswagen in the mid-1960s. In 2020, Wolfsburg, Germany-based Volkswagen purchased the remaining shares.
These days, Audi is preparing for its all-electric future. The carmaker plans to phase out internal combustion engines, turning its business all-electric by 2033.
